What is BLAST?

We're fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance.
Japanese Proverb

Blast is a university organization that promotes the sport of ballroom dancing. It is divided into three sections; the club, show, and competitive team. The Blast ballroom team focuses on training for competition in the Latin (Cha-Cha, Rumba, Jive, Samba) and Ballroom (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep) styles of dance. We are a University-sanctioned organization open to all students, faculty, and community members from Evanston, Chicago, and other nearby neighborhoods.

We welcome dancers of all experience levels, from sheer beginners to advanced. We tailor the lessons to start with the very basics, and then throw in a more advanced move near the end to please all skill levels. It is not necessary to bring a partner to these classes, and no prior dance skill is required to start in the beginner classes. We have a diverse group, ranging from college age to community members. Bring your friends and learn something new while meeting great people in a low pressure social setting! Most of the dance basics are fairly easy to pick up, so leave your fears at home and come visit us!

We regularly attend competitions hosted by USABDA as well as other college university dance teams. We take any chance we can to perform at various functions and events, but most importantly, our sole purpose is to dance and to have fun while doing it!

So, whether you want to be a tough competitor, improve your dance technique, or just meet new friends, Comp will definitely help you in reaching your goals! If you're interested in joining the BLAST Ballroom Competition Team, join us or contact us for more information!
